Title: Jamming with Attraction

Author (Talk): Gregg Lois, Yale University

Abstract:

We study the onset of rigidity in disordered solids at zero temperature. The inclusion of a small amount of attraction drastically changes the phenomenology of the jamming transition. For repulsive systems it was observed that rigidity and percolation occur at a single, well-defined packing fraction \\phi_J. For systems with attraction, percolation and rigidity occur at different packing fractions \\phi_P and \\phi_R, and the elastic response depends on the value of the packing fraction in relation to these critical values. We explore the complications that arise in this setting using numerical simulations of a model system.
