Abstract:

We investigate the effects of heating mechanism in example of the energy non-equipartition of a binary granular system. Following the experiment[Phys. Rev. Lett.,\\textbf{88}, 198301(2002)], different boundary heating mechanisms are used by event driven molecular dynamics simulations to study in the case of break down of energy equipartition of the two species, how important should the external heating be taken into accounted. We demonstrate that the influence from external heating is non-negligible and can not be get rid of even in long time scale. The conclusion is further verified by a numerical model and a solvable stochastic model.
